Four years ago when he started learning with Kumon, as Ng remembers he could get stickers after finishing classwork. “At that time, I wanted Ultra-man and Crayon Shin-chan stickers.” As he has developed the study habit, Ng experienced the joy of self-learning and acquiring knowledge on his own; he seemed to ask for more. Like many students, at the beginning of studying Kumon, it took time for Ng to adapt to the way of Kumon learning, as repetitive pattern and progress-in-small-steps worksheets. She felt bored that some contents seemed to repeat over and over again. However, she gradually developed the habit of studying Kumon every day. As she has made progress, she started to learn new contents. With the hints from the example questions, she solved the problems by herself and received 100 marks from her worksheets. This sense of achievement arouses her interest in learning.
A little boy sitting in front of us, Xiangli looks quite playful. Besides saying out loud his name, he gave us the most specific introduction of himself, “I am from Class 6, student number 17, sitting at the third seat in the third row.” Xiangli is an energetic child, who love running outside the classroom. Luo recalled the most unforgettable memory in Kumon study is the time she studied level B of Kumon Math. At that time, she had gone through a lot of repetition that was mainly about addition and subtraction of two-digit numbers. During the time of this “bottleneck”, Luo even took a “break” from Kumon for a month. Luo thinks back on those difficult time, and she believes that “overcome” those trials and then everything is going to be all right, it is just like how she studies Math at school.
